Zalmay Khalilzad

Zalmay Khalilzad, born in 1951 in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan, served under President George W. Bush as the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, Iraq, and the United Nations. He also served on the National Security Council as a special assistant to the President for Islamic Outreach and Southwest Asia Initiatives, and as special assistant for Southwest Asia, Near East, and North African Affairs. Currently, Khalilzad is president and CEO of Khalilzad Associates, an international advisory firm.
