One of the most famous contemporary perfumers, Sophia Grojsman, born in Ljubcha, Belarus, in 1945, is the creator of many of the world’s most successful fragrances, such as Lancome’s Tresor, Calvin Klein’s Eternity, and Yves Saint Laurent’s Paris. After earning a degree in analytical inorganic chemistry, Grojsman came to the U.S. and joined International Flavors and Fragrances as a lab technician, where she eventually rose to become senior perfumer. Her honors include the Cosmetic Executive Women’s Achiever Award, in 1994, and the American Society of Perfumers Living Legend Award, in 1996.
