Patrick Soon-Shiong

From South Africa | Medical Researcher and Philanthropist

Patrick Soon-Shiong first made his name as a transplant surgeon in the 1980s and later invented the cancer drug Abraxane. Turning to entrepreneurship, he started two drug companies: American Pharmaceutical Partners and Abraxis. His most recent project, Nantworks, is working to use big data to deliver comprehensive, up-to-date information on patients’ histories to improve health care. Soon-Shiong is also active in charities, donating money to help develop patient-care technology, and is a member of the Buffett-Gates Giving Pledge, planning to give away at least half his fortune.
