Ivar Giaever

From Norway | Nobel Prize Winner, Physics


Physicist Ivar Giaever, born in 1929 in Bergen, Norway, made major discoveries regarding tunneling phenomena in semiconductors and superconductors while working for General Electric’s Research and Development Center. His research contributed to a greater understanding of the nature of superconducting materials. After winning the 1973 Nobel Prize for Physics, he changed his focus to a different field, biophysics, and studied immunology. He is currently the Chief Technology Officer of Applied BioPhysics, Inc.
