Gloria Estefan, born in Havana in 1957, was one of the biggest pop stars to emerge from the 1980s. Her 1985 English-language debut album with the group Miami Sound Machine, Primitive Love, scored three top-10 hits—and their next release, Let It Loose, went triple-platinum. Estefan went on to become the most successful crossover Latin music artist in history, selling nearly 100 million records internationally. Her awards include seven Grammys and BMI Songwriter of the Year. She has also published two children’s books and a cookbook.
