Gary Shteyngart first won accolades for his 2002 debut novel, The Russian Debutante’s Handbook, a satirical and semi-autobiographical story about an immigrant who gets mixed up with the Russian mafia and American expat writers in Europe. Shteyngart followed this work with Absurdistan, a satire about immigration and bureaucracy. He currently teaches at Columbia University and most recently published a memoir titled Little Failure.
