Alexander Varshavsky

Alexander Varshavsky has devoted his research to the field of ubiquitin and regulated protein degradation, contributing to the understanding of illnesses such as cancer and birth defects. He worked for 15 years in MIT’s Biology Department at before moving to Caltech as the Smits Professor of Cell Biology. In 2007, he received the Gotham Prize for a new approach to killing cancer cells. He also received the 2010 Vilcek Prize in Biomedical Science.
