In his commitment to treating treatable illnesses in the poor, Jim Yong Kim—working for groups organizations such as the World Health Organization—pioneered groundbreakingly successful approaches to attacking disease by using cheaper high-quality drugs, incorporating social services, and training locals. From 2009 to 2012, he served as the president of Dartmouth College, becoming the first Asian-American to lead an Ivy League school. President Obama tapped him to become the twelfth president of the World Bank in 2012.
