Helene Cooper

Helene Cooper is a White House correspondent for The New York Times. She previously served as the diplomatic correspondent and the assistant editorial page editor, prior to which she was a foreign correspondent at the Wall Street Journal. Her 2008 memoir, The House at Sugar Beach: In Search of a Lost African Childhood, tells the story of her early life in Liberia—from which her family was forced to flee during the violent uprising—and the transition of her life as an American.
